Garden design studio · London & Surrey

Gardens grown slowly, designed to last decades.

We design and build private gardens, courtyards and meadows across London and the Home Counties. A small studio of designers, planters and stonemasons working from concept sketch to ten-year maintenance plan.

The studio

Three rules we don't break on any garden.

Every Hedgerow garden is led start-to-finish by one of our four designers. We don't sub out the design or the planting — only the heavy stone work, and only to two trusted yards we've used for a decade.

  • i.

Designed for the next decade, not next season.

We plant for mature size. Year-one looks sparse on purpose so year-five looks finished.

  • ii.

    Local sourcing, locally-grown plants.

~92% of our plants come from three UK nurseries within 60 miles. No air-freight specimens.

  • iii.

Aftercare on every garden, by us.

A planted garden is half-built. We offer monthly, quarterly and seasonal maintenance — same crew, every visit.

What we do

From hand-drawn sketch to fifth-season bloom.

How we work

Five seasons from a sketch to a settled garden.

  1. 01

    Site walk & brief

A 90-minute visit. Soil, aspect, drainage, sightlines, how you actually use the garden. Free.

  2. 02

    Design

Hand-drawn plan, planting palette, materials board. One round of revisions included.

  3. 03

    Build

Heavy works first: paving, walls, levels. Then planting in autumn or early spring.

  4. 04

    Settle

Year-one watering plan and weekly check-ins through the first growing season.

  5. 05

    Aftercare

Long-term maintenance contract. Same crew, four to twelve visits per year, all noted.

Word of mouth

A garden told us so.

“The plan was beautiful but what surprised me was year three. The garden has actually grown into the design — not out of it. We've never had a builder think that far ahead.”
Elena R.Highgate · Walled garden
“Hedgerow are the only firm we let on the estate. The aftercare is what does it — same gardener every visit for four years, she knows every shrub by name.”
Marcus W.Surrey · Meadow restoration
“They quoted lower than the others and the build came in under. The planting is still going strong two summers later with almost zero replacement.”
Priya K.Belsize Park · Mews courtyard
